ShanghaiTraveling to Shanghai? There are plenty of interesting activities to partake in, splendid restaurants to eat in, and fascinating buildings to walk in to. With that said, one would really need to explore the city to experience its charm. We’re listing some of the best places for a first-time trip to Shanghai:

Yùyuán Gardens
Located in the Old City, the Yùyuán Gardens are one of Shanghai’s top attractions. In order to get your first taste of traditional China, visit this serene place – Although it does tend to attract a large number of visitors on weekends. You will see gorgeous pavilions, glimmering waters and the fish that inhabit there. It is best experienced in the spring and summer months, when the garden’s colours begin to pop out – especially thanks to Shanghai’s flower, the Magnolia grandiflora.
The gardens were founded by the Pan family – rich Ming dynasty officials – and they were built from 1559 to 1577.

M50
50 Moganshan Road, or M50, is a contemporary art district in Shanghai – which is home to the infamous Shanghai graffiti wall. You will find a collection of art galleries that feature modern and contemporary art, from both emerging and established artists. ShanghART is one of the most popular galleries, which is split into two large rooms and exhibits work from both local and international artists.

Shanghai World Financial Center
The SWFC is an extremely tall skyscraper designed by Kohn Pederson Fox. This skyscraper consists of offices, hotels, shopping malls – and best of all – an observatory located on the 100th floor, known as The Sky Walk. From 474m above the ground, expect impeccable city views. Getting a good view at sunset or night-time is highly recommended.

Jìng’ān Temple
This Buddhist temple is located on the West Nanjing Road, and it was built in 247 AD. The temple consists of some beautiful statues, the most popular being a 15-tonne silver Buddha located in the main hall, the Mahavira Hall. The whole temple is really a beauty to look at and explore, standing out against the rest of the skyscrapers and modern buildings with its architectural style and shimmering, golden top. Additionally, shops and restaurants make up a part of the complex.
